In his book, Gerold Biner tells the story of his assignment as the first rescue pilot in the Himalayas, where he repeatedly put his life on the line to save mountaineers who had suffered accidents. He recounts the difficult construction of the air rescue station and describes a training program in Nepal. The narratives recount the recklessness of some mountaineers, but also of extreme athletes who have death as their constant companion.
