More winter sports missions for Air Zermatt

The 2023/2024 winter sports season in Upper Valais has begun, and this is also reflected in the increased number of rescue missions by Air Zermatt. Over the course of the last weekend, Air Zermatt rescue crews were called out on a total of 19 missions, mainly due to accidents on the ski slopes, but not only.

After heavy snowfall in the first half of the month and the glorious winter weather at the weekend, numerous winter sports enthusiasts did not need to be asked twice to take advantage of the freshly snow-covered pistes in the ski resorts of the Upper Valais. This led to an increased number of missions for the Air Zermatt rescue crews. On Saturday alone, they were called out on nine rescue missions, during which both skiers and snowboarders were flown to the hospitals in Visp and Sion. In addition to winter sports-related accidents, the rescue crews were also called out to deal with medical emergencies.

On Sunday, the Air Zermatt rescue helicopters took off on ten further missions from the bases in Zermatt and Gampel. This included a night mission in which a young patient with a heart attack had to be flown from Zermatt to hospital in Sion.

Air Zermatt's ambulance service was also called out on 13 missions at the weekend.
