Crevasse rescue at the Dufour

«Without Air Zermatt, I wouldn't have had a second chance.»

«Life happens outside, not in the office» says Cornelia Rebsamen. The passionate mountaineer is fulfilling a long-cherished dream with her husband: to climb the Dufourspitze in winter. But the unthinkable happens on the descent. She slips and falls 40 metres into a crevasse. Everything goes black.

Briefly unconscious, then the painful reality. «Am I paralysed? Where is my husband? How do I get out of here?» Despite her serious injury, she manages to alert Air Zermatt with her mobile phone in the icy depths.

Only a short time later, the rescue team is on the scene. A crew consisting of pilots, paramedics and an emergency doctor, together with three rescue specialists, work precisely and calmly to pull Cornelia out of the depths with the help of the tripod. «These people saved my life. Their professional, considered actions were my only chance.»

Many things are different after the accident. She lost her job and her perspective changed. «My life before and after the glacier fall is no longer the same. But I'm still here. And I have Air Zermatt to thank for that.»
