INFORMATION FOR PILOTS

The Federal Office of Civil Aviation (FOCA) required that pilots using the heliport in Zermatt undergo training after it was determined that the conventional landing approach procedures used by pilots unfamiliar with the area were leading to dangerous situations (overly steep approaches in the vortex area). This training includes a theoretical component and a practical component with dual controls. You can download the theoretical part of the training as well as the PPR formula here.

questions relating to drones
Drones are remotely controlled, usually very small aircraft. They are subject to the same legislation as model aircraft. In principle, drones weighing less than 30 kilograms may be operated without a permit, as long as the operator (or “pilot”) maintains visual contact with the device at all times. It is prohibited to operate a drone above gatherings of people. The criteria for the operation of drones with a weight of up to 30 kilograms are specified in the DETEC Ordinance on Special Categories of Aircraft.

Prior authorization is required to operate a drone within 5 km of landing fields and heliports, either from the landing field owner or, in the case of larger fields, Skyguide air traffic control. For further information, see the FOCA drone map.
