The rules published by the Federal Office of Civil Aviation (FOCA) are decisive for the operation of drones. Geographical flight restrictions for drones are laid down by the FOCA.
These geographical flight restrictions also include the drone no-fly zones with a radius of 5 km around the Air Zermatt heliports in Zermatt, Raron and Gampel. In Raron, the Raron Flying Club is also affected.
As the operator of the Gampel, Raron and Zermatt heliports, Air Zermatt may, upon request, grant an exemption to operate drones within a 5 km radius of its heliports. The conditions for this are that all other requirements set by the FOCA are fully complied with and that Air Zermatt is adequately informed about the proposed activity.
Air Zermatt requires at least the following information to process a request:
- Contact details of the person in charge (and also of the drone pilot – if not the same person)
- General description of the project, its purpose and, where applicable, the name/company of the client.
- Details of the drone model and its equipment
- Operator Remote ID
- Map showing the flight area
- Specification of the maximum flight altitude
- Approximate operating time, duration and number of flights
- Declaration that drone operations will only commence after telephone contact has been made and only with the consent of Air Zermatt’s operations management, and that they will be deactivated upon completion.
- A declaration of understanding that an exemption granted by Air Zermatt does not exempt the drone pilot from the requirements of the FOCA, in particular the flight rules and the right of way of manned aircraft.
Please report planned drone flights to the relevant operations control centres in Zermatt and Raron.
