Thank you Gerold Biner

He’s part of the team of Air Zermatt since 40 eventful years and since December 2011 he’s holding the position of the CEO. His impressive career started with the apprenticeship as a mechanic in Sion, followed by the attainment of his pilot’s license in Canada. Subsequently he got the chance to start as a young pilot in Zermatt. After several thousand rescue missions, sightseeing flights, construction flights and hours in the kitchen at the Air Zermatt “regulars’ table”, where the crews sit together during poor weather, and meetings with his colleagues in the management team, he finally took over the executive management. The crowning glory of his career at Air Zermatt as he ran the company with an unmistakable dedication for 12 years.

Gerold Biner is passionate and wholehearted, in everything he does. Except when he’s responding to emails while talking to you on the phone. That’s the moment to ask for anything. Joke aside: No matter which projects the company tackled, he put his heart and soul into it. Innovation and foresight have always been an integral part of the company’s philosophy. Gerold has internalized these qualities and lives by them to this day.  There was rarely a problem that was unsolvable from his point of view and as a result, great progress and development were achieved time and again for Air Zermatt. His enduring enthusiasm for flying and alpine rescue is always perceptible and ever-present.

Most people know Gerold as an approachable and endearing person in his role as a CEO. Some even say, the way he interacts with others is one of his greatest personality traits. An open minded and open-hearted person, who found his determination in helping others. Being it as a pilot at Air Zermatt, an ambassador for the world of aviation, project leader in the Himalayas or friend and open ear for employees and everyone who needs support. His trust in the skills of his employees and the resulting loyalty towards them was not only a matter of course internally, but also publicly. He has challenged and encouraged many of us, provided opportunities, recognized potential and created possibilities for employees’ professional development.

Expertise

When it comes to Gerold’s skills and achievements; we could fill pages. However, Gerold and his modesty wouldn’t be happy about that. Still from our point of view, it was important to note the often unstated and easily forgotten traits. Gerold is and has always been insanely talented. His dedication has always been to pass on his knowledge and experience.

At the end of the year, Gerold will handover controls to another extraordinary personality, namely Daniel Aufdenblatten. Another piece of good news is, Gerold will continue to be an active member of the team of instructors.
