Air Zermatt and Air-Glaciers rescue tourers from 25-metre crevasse
On Monday afternoon, a ski tourer fell 25 metres into a crevasse in the Jungfrau region. Air Zermatt rescued the casualty together with an Air-Glaciers crew and three rescue specialists.
The emergency call via the Valais cantonal rescue organisation (emergency number 144) reached the Air Glaciers base in Lauterbrunnen shortly before 2.00 pm. The crew immediately made their way to the scene of the accident near Louwitor in the municipality of Fieschertal. At the same time, the Air Zermatt rescue helicopter was also called out. Both helicopters took specially trained rescue specialists on board en route.
At the scene of the accident, the two crews coordinated the technical and medical measures together with the rescue specialists in order to quickly free the injured man from the crevasse. The tourer was rescued with the help of a tripod. After receiving initial medical treatment, he was taken to hospital injured and suffering from hypothermia.
Two rescue helicopters (Air Zermatt and Air-Glaciers) were deployed, each with an emergency doctor, a paramedic and a pilot, as well as three rescue specialists.
