New on Spotify and Co.: Alpha Zulu Podcast

On Thursday, January 12, Air Zermatt's new communication format goes online: Every two weeks, the "Alpha Zulu Podcast" tells a story of people who are passionately involved with the Valais-based helicopter company.

The popularity of podcasts has increased massively in recent years. Podcasts are audio broadcasts that can be listened to on demand via streaming services anywhere, whenever you want. Air Zermatt has set global standards in helicopter rescue in its more than 50-year history. "In our "Alpha Zulu Podcast" we want to tell stories of people who go above and beyond in their daily work to save the lives of others." With these words, Gerold Biner, CEO and pilot of Valais Air Rescue, points out the exciting, touching and sometimes funny stories in the "Alpha Zulu Podcast".

A freezing rescue

The first episode of the "Alpha Zulu Podcast" tells the story of Thomas Zumtaugwald. In early May 2022, the experienced rescue specialist made an extraordinary rescue together with Air Zermatt. A man falls off-piste above Zermatt through a blanket of snow into a rushing mountain stream and is swept away by the ice-cold water. When the patient stops responding to rescuers, Zumtaugwald doesn't hesitate for a second and climbs into the icy glacier water after the patient. "I felt myself getting dizzy. Yes, I was scared," the rescue specialist confesses in the premiere of "Alpha Zulu Podcast." Had Thomas Zumtaugwald not reacted so courageously and the team of rescuers not worked so well together, the man's fate would have come to a bad end. But the patient miraculously survives with a body temperature of only 24 degrees.

The new Air Zermatt podcast lasts as long as a round trip around the Matterhorn. A new episode is published every two weeks on Thursday. "Alpha Zulu Podcast" can be listened to free of charge on popular streaming services such as Spotify or Apple Podcasts, as well as on the Air Zermatt website.
