Skiareatest: Air Zermatt receives award for winter rescues

This winter, Air Zermatt was awarded the golden rescue trophy for the winter 2021/22 by the International Skiareatest! The crew had the pleasure of receiving the prize including a certificate for winning first place last weekend in Gstaad.

Drama at the Grand Combin - Air Zermatt in large-scale operation

The Air Zermatt was called at 6:20 this morning to a major rescue operation at the Grand Combin in the municipality of Val de Bagnes. More than ten people were hit by a glacier collapse at an altitude of 3500 meters and were injured, some of them severely to very severely, several people even died in the accident.

Air Zermatt rescues climbers from Matterhorn north face

Air Zermatt has flown several extraordinary missions in the past few days. On Monday morning two climbers in distress were rescued from the north face of the Matterhorn, and on Sunday Air Zermatt was called to a paragliding accident in Bitsch.

Challenging mission: Air Zermatt rescues skier from covered glacier stream

At the weekend, Air Zermatt was called to an extraordinary rescue operation in the creek of the Furggletscher glacier. A skier broke through the snow cover into a raging glacier stream and was dragged along for several metres. Thanks to the well-rehearsed rescue crew, the victim was rescued and survived the accident.

Philippe Imboden: “There are no lone wolves at Air Zermatt”

Philippe Imboden is leaving Air Zermatt at the end of April after over 30 years. Now approaching 60, Imboden has worked in almost every department at Air Zermatt and knows the company inside and out. Before his departure, he looks back with a smile and a heavy heart at the highs and low of his time spent at the heliport in Zermatt.

Air Zermatt completes numerous rescue missions over Easter

Air Zermatt flew a total of 36 rescue missions over the Easter period from Good Friday to Easter Monday. That's a lot, but nothing unusual for the Easter season. Most of the rescuers were called to ski accidents, but also to crevasse rescues.

1000 rescue missions since the beginning of the year

Air Zermatt flew its thousandth rescue since the beginning of 2022 on Wednesday, April 13. This is the first time in the history of the Upper Valais-based helicopter company that the 1000 mark has been reached so early in the year. This means that since the beginning of the year, Air Zermatt's rescue crews have been called out to people in distress an average of around ten times a day. That is a record.

Alpha Zulu: Exciting Airmail!

The second edition of Alpha Zulu magazine is coming out in early April. Alpha and zulu are the first and last letters of the International Radiotelephony Spelling Alphabet, and they also happen to be the symbol and abbreviation of Air Zermatt. The magazine provides an A-to-Z account of life in the air, from the spectacular to the ordinary.

Air Zermatt deployed for several crevasse rescues

The fresh snow on the first weekend in April attracted numerous winter sports enthusiasts to the mountains on Monday. But danger lurks beneath the snow cover. Within a few hours, Air Zermatt was called to three glacier crevasse accidents on Monday. In addition, rope teams in the Monte Rosa region were surprised by icy cold. Intensive hours for the rescuers in the Upper Valais.
