Beat Perren passed away on 29 July 2025 at the age of 95. With his passing, the Valais region has lost a pioneer and Air Zermatt has lost its founder, patron and friend.
26 rescue missions at the weekend
Last weekend demanded everything from the Air Zermatt rescue crews. While it is high season in the Upper Valais and numerous tourists visit the mountains, Air Zermatt was called upon around the clock. Air Zermatt was called out on a total of 26 missions on Saturday and Sunday by the Cantonal Valais Rescue Organisation (KWRO, emergency number 144). Even during the night, two helicopters were sometimes in operation at the same time.
Chihuahua shows Air Zermatt the way to the crevasse
The Air Zermatt crew experienced an extraordinary mission on the Fee Glacier above Saas-Fee on Friday afternoon. A man fell into a crevasse around eight metres deep. It was his little Chihuahua, of all things, that probably saved his life.
Looking back on 2024: a year of strong performances
The Annual General Meeting of Air Zermatt AG took place on Friday at the Riffelalp Resort above Zermatt. With a review of formative events and challenging missions, Chairman of the Board of Directors Philipp Perren and CEO Daniel Aufdenblatten gave shareholders an insight into the 2024 financial year. Air Zermatt was called out to three forest fires in Upper Valais within a very short space of time on Monday evening. Thanks to the swift deployment of the fire brigades and helicopters, the worst was prevented.
Increased rescue operations in the mountains - even at night
Beautiful weather, high temperatures and good conditions in the mountains: the mountaineering season has begun and this is clearly noticeable at Air Zermatt. Over the past few days, there has been an accumulation of missions in high alpine terrain. Air Zermatt's rescue helicopters have had to evacuate exhausted or distressed mountaineers practically every day, even at night.
A strong partnership for difficult times
Air Zermatt has been working closely with Care Oberwallis for many years and also supports the organisation financially. This partnership is a key component in dealing with psychologically stressful missions and their aftermath. An exchange took place at the weekend.

Large avalanche below the Furgghorn
Large avalanche below the FurgghornA large avalanche broke loose outside the marked pistes on the Furgghorn above Zermatt on Tuesday lunchtime. The avalanche reached a width of several hundred meters and a run-out zone of around 300 meters. After the heavy snowfall of the past few days, enormous masses of snow were set in motion.
