Air Zermatt helmet for the "Rookies of the Year"
Jan Oriane and Gian Roehrich, two outstanding young talents in Valais skiing, have been recognised by Air Zermatt for their significant progress in the 2023/24 ski season. The two young athletes received specially designed helmets in the colours of Air Zermatt and can now wear the title ‘Rookie of the Year’ for the next twelve months.
14-Hour Rescue on the Matterhorn
On Monday, a particularly challenging rescue took place on the Matterhorn. At an altitude of over 3500 meters, two Vietnamese climbers found themselves in a life-threatening situation. The extreme weather conditions posed a major challenge for the rescue team. The rescue of the two climbers ultimately lasted 14 hours.
Several rescue missions on the Matterhorn in one week
There was a lot going on in the Valais mountains last week, and the Air Zermatt rescue crews had their hands full. On the Matterhorn alone, Air Zermatt had to take off on several rescue missions from Monday to Sunday. In total, Air Zermatt took off 52 times last week for rescues by helicopter; the ambulance was called out a further 15 times.
Anniversary of employees
Air Zermatt is celebrating another anniversary. On 1 August 2024, Dario Gobba celebrated his 15th anniversary as a paramedic at Air Zermatt.
Left alone on the Matterhorn
On Tuesday morning, Air Zermatt rescued an uninjured alpinist on the Hörnligrat ridge of the Matterhorn. His two colleagues had left him without a rope, making it impossible for him to descend.
